How have government policies impacted farming trends?

This review provides initial extrapolative information from the general literature on the impact of government policies on agricultural production. This review can serve as a basis for dialogue between the health and agricultural sector and evaluative research on policies that offer alternatives to tobacco production and the supply of unhealthy food. With the exception of one study, all studies that evaluated the effect of extension services, infrastructure, or farmer businesses on income or farm size reported an increase in income or farm size. For example, Naglova and Gurtler (201) found that direct payments improved agricultural incomes and the incomes of medium and large scale farms, but had a negative impact on the incomes of small farmers.
